STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

       2019 Scholarship Winners!

The Leelanau County Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) presented Kelsey Pease and Katia Skarupinski each with a $500 scholarship in conjunction with TBA Credit Union at their recent monthly luncheon meeting at the Lake Leelanau RV Park Lodge.


Katia is a second-year recipient of the scholarship and is a graduate of Leland Public Schools. She will be in her senior year at Ferris State University this fall, majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy, with a goal of becoming a physical therapist.

At FSU, Katia participates in Relay for Life, the Wesley House Organization as well as assisting underclassmen with programs, scheduling classes and information on graduate

schools. This is Katia’s second year as President of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club. Katia is shown at left receiving her scholarship from Darlene Garland, Treasurer, and Jasmine Birgy, TBA Credit Union Representative.


A graduate of Suttons Bay Schools, Kelsey is will be a senior at the University of Michigan with a Communications Major in the College of Literature, Science and Arts this fall. As a resident assistant this fall, Kelsey enjoys working with people and spent six weeks this summer in Argentina focusing on language.

Kelsey is focused on doing public relations work and will be seeking employment in Chicago.

Our Leelanau Chapter of MARSP is a 501c3 non-profit organization under the IRS Code. Donate to our scholarship program! Your donation will be tax deductible and you will be making a donation to assist a college junior or senior from Leelanau County! Mail your check made payable to: Leelanau County MARSP, c/o Darlene Garland, 4109 S. Scenic View Dr., Suttons Bay, MI 49682.


Check back for dates when applications will be due for 2023 scholarships.

KNOW A COLLEGE JUNIOR OR SENIOR that is a Leelanau Public High School Graduate? Pass on this info.....


To apply for the scholarships, a college sophomore or junior must:

  1. Be a graduate of a Leelanau County public school.
  2. Be going into at least his/her junior year of college. Age will not be a determinant, and no specific majors are necessary. Graduate students are not eligible for this award.
  3. Have at least a 3.0 scholastic average for all college work completed through the mid-point of the academic year of application and furnish a transcript or other documentation to verify.
  4. Submit a short essay outlining his/her career goals and significant educational, employment, and other experiences/achievements to date.
  5. Provide two letters of recommendation.


The Leelanau Chapter has been awarding scholarships since 2016. Scholarships have not been awarded for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID issues.

FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS

Our chapter members are encouraged to bring a nonperishable item(s) for local food pantries to each of our meetings.


For years, our Leelanau Chapter has been donating to local pantries.


Currently, donations are made to the Leelanau Christian Neighbors who serve residents of Leelanau County and is located on M-204 in Lake Leelanau.
